Composite Materials from AAVF

Raw Materials

Epoxy Glass Fabric Laminated Sheet (ERBGF)

QG - Flame retardant. Excellent machining characteristics and excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Suitable for Class B (130°) applications.

QG/F - Excellent electrical, mechanical and thermal characteristics, suitable for Class F (155°) applications. Previously Grade QG/H.

Silicone Glass Fabric Laminated Sheet (SRBGF)

BG and BG/1 - Well consolidated boards possessing high dielectric properties at elevated temperatures and high frequencies.

Used for terminal boards, circuit boards and insulators in high frequency applications where the low dielectric loss of these laminates is of merit.

Polyester/Glass Mat Laminated Sheet

Polyester Glass Mat laminated sheet is produced by combining polyester resin with glass mat and suitable inorganic fillers and laminating under heat and pressure.

These laminates have excellent mechanical and electrical properties and include special grades imparting flame resistance and arc and track resistance.

They also exhibit good retention of properties and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures. The standard grades achieve service temperatures up to 155°C (Class F). Higher temperature grades are also available.

Polyester Glass Mat laminated sheet can be machined, punched, drilled, milled, sawn, sanded, sheared or routed. High machining speeds are recommended. Whenever possible, diamond coated or tungsten carbide tipped tools are recommended.

Assembly is possible by bonding, metal screws or rivets.

Compared to traditional glass laminates such as epoxy, silicone or melamine, these laminates could prove to be more cost effective.

Presspahn

AW Buff

Recommended particularly for all those applications requiring an insulating material with good temperature resistance, chemical purity and excellent mechanical and electrical characteristics both in air and mineral oils

Phenolic Resin Bonded Paper Material (SRBP)

AX - Good machining and punching properties. Suitable for low voltage insulation and mechanical applications. Anti-track surfaces (brown only).

YX - Good mechanical and medium electrical properties. Suitable for punching. Typically used for switchgear and control panel applications.

MX - Good mechanical, electrical and machining properties. Suitable for high tension electrical applications

MX/F - Good electrical and warm punching properties. Similar to Grade MX but with special flame retardant properties.

Phenolic Resin Bonded Fibre Material (SRBF)

BY - Based on a medium weave 60/60 fabric. Suitable for general mechanical and low voltage applications. Good punching and machining properties. Ideal for a wide range of mechanical applications requiring high strength and toughness with excellent wear resistance.

FY - Based on a 100/100 fine weave fabric. Suitable for mechanical and low voltage applications. Good punching and machining properties coupled with excellent wear resistance. Ideal for machining intricate components to a fine finish.

Vulcanized Fibre

Typical applications for Vulcanized Fibre include containers, washers, spacers, gaskets, end insulations, cable clamps and slot wedges in electric motors.

Vulcanized Fibre is available in sheet, roll, coil and rod forms, the latter being made by turning square strips cut from sheet. Stampings and machined components can also be supplied to customer requirements.

Grey Vulcanized Fibre has successfully been used in the majority of applications where 'Leatheroid' was previously specified.

Vulcanized Fibre offers

  • A combination of high mechanical strength and dielectric properties
  • Exceptional strength-to-weight ratio
  • High arc quenching properties both in air and oil
  • Good resistance to wear, fatigue and impact
  • Excellent anti-static and ageing properties
  • Freedom from harmful chemicals, which enables it to be used in direct contact with metals without corrosive effect
  • Resistance to attack by organic solvents, petrol, oil and grease
